December 15, 2020

The Town of Halifax has been notified of twenty-eight new confirmed cases of Halifax residents having COVID-19. Twelve of these cases are from the testing that was conducted on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6. However, the following cases were not part of the testing: Friday, December 11 - 1; Saturday, December 12 - 2; Monday, December 14 - 10; Tuesday, December 15 - 3.

That brings the totals for Halifax for the pandemic to 126 recovered, 47 in isolation, 6 deaths, and a grand total of 179 cases.

As mentioned before, unless the Town is notified, cases included in the "isolation" category are moved to "recovered" after fourteen days. Since it has been several days since this information has been updated, some of the cases included in "isolation" total on December 10 were moved to the "recovered" total during this period. The testing cases will move from "isolation" to "recovered" on Monday, December 20, so the isolation number will show a significant drop on that date.

None of the counts include anyone who is in quarantine due to having been in close proximity with a confirmed or probable case. A person in quarantine does not necessarily have COVID, but is in quarantine so to reduce the chances of possibly transmitting the virus to others.

December 10, 2020

The Town of Halifax has been notified of five new confirmed cases of Halifax residents having COVID-19, one on December 8, 2020, two on December 9, 2020, and two on December 10, 2020. That brings the totals for Halifax for the pandemic to 114 recovered, 31 in isolation, 6 deaths, and a grand total of 151 cases.

One or more of these five cases were as a result of the testing conducted by the Town during the weekend. Since some of the positive test results from this weekend were due to residents who had already tested positive previously and had been included in the totals published previously, those "second positives" are not included in the counts listed above.

It is likely that the Town will see a spike in the total number of cases and the number in isolation (generally the number of distinct individuals who were confirmed or probable cases during the last fourteen days) during the next few days due to the testing conducted this past weekend. Many of the individuals who participated in the program were not Halifax residents so any positive cases for non-Halifax residents will not be included in the Town's totals even though the testing was conducted in Halifax.

A number of people have, at various times, stated that "more testing results in more cases". What really happens is that more testing results in more _known_ cases. The residents who tested positive already had COVID, but did not know this. By participating in the testing program, they now can protect themselves and, furthermore, help reduce the chances of transmitting COVID to their family, friends, and co-workers. That fulfills the purpose of testing: preventing the transmission of COVID.

December 8, 2020

All results from the COVID testing in Halifax on Saturday and Sunday should now be available (as of noon on Tuesday, December 8). If you run into any difficulty with access, please contact the Fire Department at 781-293-1751 ext 113.
