Conservation Commission

Duties & Responsibilities

Established by the Town's acceptance of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8C and appointed by the Board of Selectmen, the Halifax Conservation enforces the Town's Wetlands By-Law and the State's laws and regulations concerning development in and around wetlands and promotes and develops the Town's natural resources and and protects its watershed resources and may acquire land to assist in these activities.

Filing Deadline

In order for an application to be considered at a Conservation Commission meeting, the applicant must file at least 15 days in advance of the meeting. There are some meetings, because of various holidays, for which the deadline is greater than 15 days. Please contact the Commission office to confirm the deadline dates. A schedule is also available.

Halifax Wetlands By-Law & Regulations

The Town of Halifax has its own Wetlands By-Law that, in some respects, is stricter than the statutes and regulations of Massachusetts. Applicants should review the by-law before completing any applications. The Town does not have any local wetlands regulations or conservation regulations.
