License Plate Cancellation & Revocation

• Requirement since end of 2019
• Customer is required to reinstate the plate by paying the reinstatement fee of $50, so the plate is in an eligible status to cancel the plate

Example:

• Customer has moved out of state and registered vehicle in new state and without cancelling MA plates
• Insurance company revokes policy and notifies the RMV
• RMV "marks the record" as revoked due to revoked insurance policy
• Plate now in revocation status and customer cannot cancel plate until revocation is cleared by paying fee of $50

To process the transaction, the customer may contact the RMV via:

• If customer does not settle issue, customer will continue receiving excise bills
