10th Edition MA State Building Code Update!

On January 1, 2025, the 10th Edition of the MA Building Code (780 CMR) will come into full effect.  As is customary, a concurrency period allowing both the 9th Edition and the 10th Edition to be used will run from October 11, 2024 to January 1, 2025.  This will allow contractors and designers to choose which code they wish to design and build a structure to and ensure that plans that have been designed under the current code were not designed in vain. 

Please take note:  Any permit applications submitted on or after July 1, 2025 must comply with the 10th Edition of the MA Building Code.

The 10th Edition will comprise of the 2021 International Building Code and the 2021 International Residential Code with MA Amendments.  Other updated and amended code books include the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code, the 2021 International Existing Buildings Code, the 2021 International Pool and Spa Code, and the 2021 International Mechanical Code.

There are several updates in this code that relate to the required height of structures being built or elevated in a flood zone, energy code updates, structural updates, etc. that will be of significant interest to homeowners, contractors and design professionals working in Marshfield.
