State Mosquito Control Opt-Out Hearing

The Halifax Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00pm in the Great Hall to determine whether the Town of Halifax should opt-out of the State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board's spraying program including aerial or other mosquito control spraying. Please note that this is the STATE program, not the program run by the Plymouth County Mosquito Control District. If the Town, through the Board of Selectmen, decides to opt-out, the Town will be required to provide an alternative mosquito control management plan application:

Form - https://www.mass.gov/doc/application-for-municipality-opt-out-of-srmcb-s...

that will have to be approved by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA)

The EEA, in making a decision whether to approve this alternative plan, will consider the Town's history of arborvirus risk, the regional impact of excluding the municipality from spraying, and the ability of the municipality to successfully implement an alternative mosquito management plan. In order for the Plan to be considered, it must contain at a minimum a detailed public outreach and education component. The Town will also need to make sure to provide an appropriate level of detail for any other components of the Plan that the Town intends to provide.

Anyone not able to attend this hearing may submit comments to the Halifax Board of Selectmen, 499 Plymouth Street, Halifax, MA 02338 or by e-mail to [email protected]
