Update 09/28/2023 4:40 PM: The Town's Hazardous Waste Day event has been rescheduled to take place on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Highway Barn, 60 Hemlock Lane. Details regarding what materials/type of waste is or isn't permitted is available below. Update 09/15/2023 2:35 PM: Due to the inclement weather from Hurricane Lee, the Hazardous Waste Day event scheduled for tomorrow, September 16th, 2023, has been canceled and will be rescheduled to a later date and time. When the event has been rescheduled, details will be posted on the Town’s website at www.halifax-ma.org. The Town of Halifax will hold a Hazardous Waste Day collection event on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Highway Barn, 60 Hemlock Lane. All hazardous waste being collected and discarded must be in their originally labeled and sealed containers. Containers that are leaking and/or rusted will not be accepted. No commercial or industrial hazardous waste will be accepted.

Anyone with proof of Halifax residency may participate at no charge. Participation in this year's collection event does not require being enrolled into any of the Town's trash and recycling programs or services, such as, Curbside Collection and Recycling Center services.

Propane tanks, motor oil, antifreeze, mercury or materials containing mercury, and auto and rechargeable batteries can be brought to the Recycling Center, 917 Plymouth Street, year-round accompanied with a valid Recycling Sticker.

Medications can be brought to the Police Station, 540 Plymouth Street, and discarded year-round using the Medication Dropbox located inside the station's entrance foyer.

Syringes can be brought to the Fire Station, 438 Plymouth Street, and discarded year-round by speaking with a Firefighter or Officer on-duty.

Latex paint is messy, but not hazardous. If not recyclable, absorb liquid with cat litter and dispose of in trash. Usable leftover latex paint is accepted and recycled into new paint products at Recolor® Paints in Hanover for a small fee. To see if your paint qualifies for recycling, call 833-RECOLOR (732-6567).
