Sept. 2022 Drought Level & Water Restrictions

TOWN OF HALIFAX
OUTSIDE WATER RESTRICTIONS

On September 8, 2022, the Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary upgraded our area to be in a Level-2 Significant Drought.  She said it is incredibly important to practice water conservation and to adhere to local requirements to avoid overstressing our water resources.

We need to continue to be especially careful to exercise caution around any outdoor activities that increase the risk of brush and forest fires such as barbecues, campfires, and properly disposing of smoking materials.

As of August 10, 2022, the following water restrictions were put in place:

  • No nonessential outdoor water use; including washing personal vehicles and hard surfaces (sidewalks, patios; etc.)
  • Watering can usage is allowed prior to 9:00 a.m.

If these restrictions are not adhered to the following fines will be enforced:
          1st Offense - Verbal Warning
          2nd Offense - $50.00 fine
          3rd Offense - $100.00 fine
4th Offense - TERMINATION OF WATER SERVICE AND
                                 $250.00 TURN ON FEE.

In addition, the Halifax Water Department strongly discourages installing new sod, seeding, or landscaping and filling a new swimming pool.

Individuals with private wells are strongly encouraged to adhere to these water recommended water use restrictions.

Your cooperation is appreciated.  We hope to lift these restrictions soon.
