Dear Silver Lake Community:

At 8:30 AM this morning, we participated in a conference call with the MA Commissioner of Education and the MA Commissioner of Public Health. They provided guidance on next steps to deal with the impacts of coronavirus. We also communicated with area district educational leaders, to make a plan that is in the best interest of our entire region.

Based on this guidance, we will close the Silver Lake schools for the next two weeks. At this time, the tentative return for students and staff would be Monday, March 30th. Closing our schools for two weeks will allow us to clean and disinfect our schools, mitigate the spread of the virus, and consider additional guidance from the MA Department of Public Health (DPH).

We recognize that this closure has a significant impact on our communities. We must take proactive steps, however, in the best interests of our students and families. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our students.

During this time, you should report information regarding potential cases or contact with cases to your local Board of Health or the Massachusetts Department of Health at (617) 983-6800. Quarantined individuals who have questions or concerns related to their quarantine should contact DPH or their local health department.

Central office, principals, and essential personnel will continue to work during the closure, so please contact us with any questions or concerns. Email is the best method of contact as we might be moving locations during cleaning.

We recognize schools are essential sources of information for our community, and we will continue to keep families and staff informed during the closure time. We will get through this together.

Thank you,

Jill Proulx and Ryan Lynch
