Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) Update

As of August 3, 2020 Halifax, MA is at moderate risk for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
 
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has reported the first EEE case of 2020, an individual under 18 years of age from Plymouth County was confirmed EEE positive on August 3, 2020.  The case has recovered.
 
The following cities and towns had EEE positive mosquito samples: Carver, Kingston, and Plympton.
 
The following communities are being raised to critical risk for EEE: Carver and Middleborough.
    
The following communities are being raised to high risk for EEE: Kingston, Plympton, and Rochester. 
 
The following communities are at moderate risk for EEE: Bridgewater, Halifax, Lakeville, Pepperell, Plymouth, Raynham, Taunton, and Wareham.
 
We need to protect ourselves from EEE
Use deet or other approved repellant
Avoid being outdoors dawn to dusk
Wear long sleeves and pants to cover legs and arms
Empty all standing water
Repair screens on doors and windows
Use netting over baby carriages 
Help neighbors
Call on the elderly
Protect your animals.  Bring your pets indoors dawn to dusk
