Re: Monponsett Pond - Algae Counts - November 10 and East Monponsett Report

Monponsett Pond - November 13

On Monday, November 9th, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) collected water samples from West Monponsett Pond at Ocean Ave beach in Hanson and the state boat ramp in Halifax. MassDEP analyses showed cyanobacteria levels of 65,000 cells/milliliter (ml) at Ocean Ave beach and 38,000 cells/ml at the state boat ramp, both below the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml.

According to MDPH guidelines, samples collected a week apart with levels below the guidelines are required before the advisory should be lifted. The results above will be considered the first low samples, and MassDEP will sample at the water body again next week. We recommend that the current advisory remain in place for now.
