Monponsett Pond - Algae Testing - September 5, 2017

On Tuesday, September 5th, MassDEP collected and analyzed water samples from East and West Monponsett Ponds.  The East Monponsett sample, collected at the Rt 36 boat ramp in Halifax showed a cyanobacteria level of 7,826 cells/ml.  The West Monponsett Pond samples showed cyanobacteria levels of 61,853 cells/ml at 4th Avenue Beach and 57,125 cells/ml at the state boat ramp.  All of these levels are below the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. This is the first week of levels below the guideline for West Monponsett Pond. According to MDPH guidelines, samples collected a week apart with levels below the guidelines are required before MDPH can recommend that the advisory for West Monponsett Pond be lifted. The results above will be considered the first low samples. We recommend that the current advisory remain in place for now. Result: West Monponsett Pond remains closed until at least September 15. East Monponsett Pond remains open.
