Public Entertainment Permit

Public entertainment - Weekdays

The Halifax Board of Selectmen issues licenses for public entertainment on weekdays (Monday-Saturday) under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, Section 183A which requires businesses having public entertainment on weekdays (Monday through Saturday) not covered by another license (i.e. pool table, automatic amusement, etc.) to obtain a Public Entertainment License Weekday. The fee is $75.00 and the annual license expires on December 31.  More information and an application are available below.

Public entertainment - Sundays

The Halifax Board of Selectmen issues licenses for public entertainment on Sundays under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 136, Sections 2-4 which requires businesses having public entertainment on Sundays to obtain a Public Entertainment - Sunday License issued by the Selectmen and approved by the State. There are exemptions to this. The license fee is $100.00 to the Town of Halifax and $50.00 to the State for "regular hours" (1:00pm to midnight) and $100.00 for "special hours" (midnight to midnight).
