Senior Tax Work-Off Program

The Council on Aging, working with the Board of Assessors' Office, operates a Senior Tax Work-Off Program in which eligible residents or their designees may work on a volunteer basis for various departments and, in return, have their property taxes reduced. Eligibility Requirements for Senior Tax Exemption

The requirements for the Clause 41C (Elderly Exemption) were changed by the Board of Assessors in 2003 to make it easier to qualify for the $1,000 tax exemption on your real estate tax bill. The eligibility requirements for Fiscal Year 2024 are listed below.

  1. Be sixty-five (65) years of age or older by July 1st, 2023
  2. Income (including cost-of-living adjustments)
    1. Single: $35,582 per year
    2. Married: $53,370 per year
  3. Assets
    1. Single: $53,513
    2. Married: $73,583
