Monponsett Pond - Algae Update - August 14 (revised)

The MA Department of Public Health (MDPH) collected a water sample at 4th Ave Beach on West Monponsett Pond on Tuesday, August 11th. Laboratory analysis showed cyanobacteria levels of 70,000 cells/ml, equal to the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml (and considered an exceedance for advisory purposes).  Microcystin toxin was not detected. MDPH recommends that the current advisory remain in place. Sampling will occur at the waterbody again on August 18th.

The MA Department of Environmental Projection reported results today from analyses of water samples collected on Thursday, July 30th at the state boat ramp on West Monponsett Pond and the Rt 36 boat ramp on East Monponsett Pond.  The analyses showed cyanobacteria levels of 248,000 cells/ml at West Monponsett Pond and zero cells/ml at East Monponsett Pond.  The level in West Monponsett Pond is above the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml, while the level in East Monponsett Pond is below the guideline level.
