Monponsett Pond - Algae Test Results - August 28

On Monday, August 28th, MassDEP collected water samples on East and West Monponsett Ponds.  The samples were analyzed by MassDEP on August 28-29th.  The East Monponsett sample, collected at the Rt 36 boat ramp in Halifax showed cyanobacteria levels of 50,504 cells/ml.  The West Monponsett Pond samples showed cyanobacteria levels of 134,910 cells/ml at 4th Avenue Beach and 102,116 cells/ml at the state boat ramp.  The levels in West Monponsett Pond are above the MDPH guideline level of 70,000 cells/ml. For East Monponsett Pond, the level is below the cell count guideline and the location on the pond that had the scum two weeks continues to no longer have one. For West Monponsett Pond, MDPH recommends that that the current advisory remain. For East Monponsett Pond, the result above will be considered the second low sample.  According to MDPH guidelines, samples collected a week apart with levels below the guidelines are required before MDPH can recommend that the advisory be lifted. The result above is the second low sample, so the advisory for East Monponsett Pond can be rescinded. Result: West Monponsett remains closed. East Monponsett is now open.
